{"Elder" – архаичная форма сравнительной степени от "old" – "старый, древний". Также "elder" означает "старший (по возрасту или положению)", "предшествующий, более ранний", "старинный, древний". "Kindred" – "род", "race" – "раса; род, племя, народ", "people" – "народ".} Подлежит переводу. Если в языке есть два варианта сравнительной степени слова "старый", то нужно выбрать более древнюю форму. (В английском архаичное "elder" подразумевает и родство и старшинство). Сходство между словами "Elda-r" (мн.ч., западные эльфы) и "elder" – случайное. Слово "Elda" ("эльф") было придумано задолго до написания "Властелина Колец". Не нужно пытаться передать это сходство – оно не существенно и не значимо. Ср. с понятием "Elder Days", которое тоже подразумевает более древний период в истории народа (народа того же самого корня), иными словами "во времена далёких предков".
